Should sex education be imparted in our colleges or not?
In favour of sex education:-
-
Sex is very important aspect of the youth's life. After the three basic needs of food, clothing and shelter, sex is the fourth need and must be satisfied at the proper age and time. But today's career minded youth postpones matrimonial decisions to later period and seeks to get sexual satisfaction through other means. This spawns dreadful diseases like AIDS, Hepatitis - B, etc. and has greater ramifications for society at large.
Therefore, it becomes imperative for us to include sex education in our syllabuses in colleges so that the youth is not wasted through acquiring unscientific ideas on sex and the later years of our young men and women are not damaged.
Internet and entertainment industry have together brought about an information overload even on sex matters.
At present, boys and girls are not provided sex education by their parents or teachers for fear that it may have corrupting influence on them.
It is considered immoral even to mention the word "sex" before children and they are not allowed to read literature on sex.
Against Sex Education:-
There is already an over-burden of many subjects on our college students resulting in less than proper devotion of time to all of them. If we add sex education too as a subject it will be doing injustice to them and other subjects.
In the age of satellite and cable T.V., Internet and magazine boom, the pictures shown on them are so titillating that parents consider if shameful for their children to see them.
If we have sex education as a subject in college, the parents will not approve of it as that might encourage the young ones to see more and more sex arousing pictures to satisfy their lust. So, sex education should be kept out of our colleges.
Sexes form an important part of human knowledge, no doubt, but merely for this reason include it in our college curriculum.
Since we do not have sex education in our curriculum at present, our youth, however inquisitive they might be about sexual matters, cannot discuss openly with their friends, parents or teachers.
But one sex is included as a subject, all inhibitions will go away and then youth will be liberty to talk about it with one and all.
It will naturally be looked down upon by our elder, for to talk on sex related matters is considered immoral in our society. It may thus result in our elders not sending their children to the college for fear that it might corrupt them.
