But once one takes to smoking, its cumulative cost does not remain low, for chain smoking being its natural result it knows no stopping.
- Medical science has conclusively proved that nicotine the chief ingredient of tobacco causes career. Therefore, it has been made mandatory in India, USA, UK and other advanced countries of the world to contain the statutory warning "Cigarette smoking is injurious to health" on every pack. This ensures that people do not take to smoking unawareness.
- Our Supreme Court in a recent judgment held that smoking in public places should be banned and the Government of India issued instructions in pursuance of it.
Drinking:-
- While only a smoker is affected by tobacco and the affluent are affected by gambling, in the case of drinking, the homes and families of millions of poor daily wages earners are ruined for their children are neglected for want of money and wives have to take up some job-even dishonourable ones at times-to maintain their families.
- Tobacco is affected the lungs late and gambling does not cause any health hazards as such, but the effect of drinking on our brain is quick. It robs a drunkard of his senses, his talks, behavior and actions become incoherent and he may even turn insane.
- Drinks in small doses stimulate a person to bring out his potential is not tenable. Once addicted to alcohol, a person knows no limits and ends up as a heavy drunkard.
Gambling:-
- The habit of gambling adversely affects the entire thinking of a family, Instead of trying to earn an honest penny, he day dreams of becoming a millionaire overnight through fluke of the dice.
- Gamblers are bound turn into dishonest and bad characters. While drunkards and smokes can remain honest all their lives, a gambler cannot lead life of honesty and integrity.
- While a smoker rarely indulges in any crime and a drunkard does not take to gambling, a gambler more often than not gets involved in other crimes like thieving and drinking.
- Tobacco lasts a lifetime, and drinking a few months or years if one has substantial money to spend on it, but gambling can reduce an emperor to the condition of a non-entity as it did to the Pandawas of Mahabharata.
- One can get cured of the effects of smoking and drinking if one likes even belatedly but the results of gambling are incurable, for what is lost here can never be regained.
