What do you understand by Enhancement Package (EHP)? |
|
- Due to rapid technological changes and ever –increasing needs of the customers, new versions of SAP were introduced almost every year after 1998. This was helpful for the customers who could afford the upgrades to move to the newer versions. However, some customers who could not catch up with the speed were left behind. This was primarily because upgrades were costly not only in terms of monetary resource requirements but also in terms of long testing cycles. As newer versions were introduced, the support for older versions was phased out.
-
This led to difficulties for customers working on the older versions.
-
Keeping this problem of customers in mind, SAP introduced a new concept called EHP. Under EHP, customers can add new functionalities incrementally. This helps SAP to keep the core version stable while adding the newer functionalities. Customers can also selectively activate the functionality required by them. This reduces deployment times and testing cycles.
-
EHP is the latest innovation in the methods of software upgrades. It delivers all the benefits of an upgrade without the hassles of an upgrade. For example, if a component A was upgraded by EHP 1 and component B was upgraded by EHP 2, the system will keep track of both the versions and there will not be any inconsistencies in the system.
