13. How do we start an instance of a SAP server?
  The process to start the instance of a SAP server depends upon the operating system on which the server is installed. In case of Windows NT, we use SAP Management Console (MMC) to start the SAP server. In case of UNIX variants, we run the shell script start sap from the home directory of SAP.

14. What is BI?
 
  • Business Intelligence (BI) supports various business functions, such as data warehousing, business planning, business insights, measurements and management, information broadcasting and accelerated business intelligence.
  • Transaction based systems are not optimized for management reporting.
  • In management reporting, the slicing and dicing of information is unique and generates loads of data volumes.
  • It is not possible for transaction based systems to handle such huge volumes of data.
  • Therefore, a business data warehouse is built to generate such information. This system is called differently by different organizations. Some organizations also refer it as Decision Support System (DSS). BI is similar product of SAP.

15. List all the standard clients available in the SAP system?
 
    The following clients are pre delivered with the SAP system:
  • Client 000 – Refers to the standard master pre-delivered client created by SAP. Client 000 is the reference client. The original system and configuration is stored in this client. Whenever an update is applied to a SAP system, the data in this client is also updated. No transaction data can be posted in this client.
  • Client 001 – Refers to a copy of Client 000. This client can be customized as per the requirements of the organization.
  • Client 066 – Refers to the EarlyWatch client, which is used by SAP to check the system.
  • Client 800 – Refers to the IDES system demo client, which contains demonstration data and configuration.

16. What is ABAP?
 
  • The term ABAP stands for Advanced Business Application and Programming.
  • The latest object oriented version 4 of ABAP is often referred as ABAP/4.
  • Depending upon the individual requirements of organizations, a need was felt to extend the functionality of SAP.
  • This is implemented by allowing customers to develop their customizations through some simple programming language. As a result, ABAP came into existence.
  • Over a period of time, ABAP has also evolved as a fully-fledged programming language. Recently, object oriented capabilities have also been added to ABAP.
