Solution
Let the number be x.
Then, x - 2 / 5 x = 510.
‹=›3 / 5 x = 510
‹=›x = [510 x 5 / 3] = 850.
Therefore 10% of 850 = 85.
30. Two tailors X and Y are paid a total of Rs. 550 per week by their employer. If X is paid 120 percent of the sum paid to Y, how much is Y paid per week?
  A.  Rs. 200
  B.  Rs. 250
  C.  Rs. 300
  D.  Rs. 350
Solution
Let the sum paid to Y per week be Rs. z.
Then, z + 120% of z = 550.
‹=›z + 120 / 100 z = 550
‹=› 11 / 5 z = 550
‹=›z = [550 x 5 / 11] = 250.

31. A student has to obtain 33% of the total marks to pass. He got 125 marks and failed by 40 marks. The maximum marks are

Let the maximum marks be x.
Then, 33% of x = 125 + 40
